Hover Shoes: In 1995 or so, there existed a catalog-based retail place called "The EDGE Catalog" that was hoping to be a 2nd rate Sharper Image but with cooler and more affordable stuff in addition to the $10,000 massage/beverage/heated/calfskin/videogame/hooker easy chairs. Their catalogs were full of fun techy stuff and I had several of them including a cool silver, hydraulic-assisted watch called the "machine Watch" that my Mom bought me. For one of their catalogs, they inserted 5 funny phony items throughout the catalog. There were tablets to turn any water into the alcoholic beverage of your choice, a home surgery set, a home cloning kit a couple others and - Hover Shoes. The fun thing was that I had just opened the catalog as always and did not know about the phoniness of the items. The first item I saw were the Hover Shoes. Arguably the least obviously fake of the bunch. And the items were inserted as if they were real purchasable retail products, complete with photos of happy people enjoying them. I spent a signifigant amount of time phoning friends and telling them about these fantastic new shoes that I was about to order. I wish I still had the catalog. The company is now gone. May they rest in Hell.
